With air filters as clogged with dirt and more means your engine now has to depend more on fuel ( because it’s not getting any air) to keep going. Ordinarily it has to be more air and very less fuel but since the air passage is blocked, the engine uses more fuel. Your wallet handles that aspect of the equation. REPLACE your engine air filter regularly ( avoid the ‘let’s blow it ‘ habit). Need I say more? Ciao
